Hello,

I got a problem with the HITACHI HDS722525VLAT80 (250GB) harddisc
using Windows XP. Directories suddenly become unreadable.
(just like clicking on a cd-drive without disc inserted)

The only way to get back to my data is to run scandisc. This
can take a while because i have up to 30,000 files in one dir.
Each file is repaired by scandisc seperately.

Some details:
Athlon 1800+ on Asus A7V333 mainboard with 512MB RAM.
Windows XP Home Edition 2002 without any updates, drivers
or Service Packs (because it's a stand alone computer without internet)
The harddisc is the second (non-system) disc with only one
big (232GB) partition.

I even wonder why this works smoothly (except the unreadable dir's)
because many ppl report problems with big disks and windows without
updates/drivers.

I'll answear to myself :)

Windows starts from the beginning of the hdd when the limit of 137GB has
been reached and overwrites the index tables. SP1 is neccessary to avoid
this problem!
