direct draw + multiple monitors

Whenever I disabled my primary monitor (on a old PCI card,
an S3 Trio, I think), direct draw is disabled on my
secondary adapter (an AGP Geforce 4MX). I have now removed
the PCI card but direct draw is still disabled, and DXDiag
will not allow me to re-enable it. Direct3D works fine,
with hardware acceleration.

I'm running windows XP SP1 and DirectX 9.0a.

Thanks,

Mark Fenton

Hi Mark,

Upgrading to DX 9.0b should hopefully solve that issue.
Download the complete file and install it from:

I have upgraded to dx9.0b, and have also reinstalled the
newest nvidia reference drivers. However, directdraw and
AGP texture acceleration are still disabled. The problem
seems to be to do with the multiple monitor features of
XP. Any ideas?

Hi Mark,

Here's an idea. Perhaps you need to update your Chipset Drivers:

If anyone else has this problem I have now solved it (not
my idea, found it on a google group search). This does
sound very wierd but it does/did work, I promise!

Run netmeeting (c:\program files\netmeeting\conf.exe), and
run the remote desktop sharing wizard. Close netmeeting and
check dxdiag - all hardware acceleation now enabled!

It must be something to do with netmeetings video overlay
support for video conferencing, but I wish I knew what.
