Difficulty with pst access over network

My IT support doesn't have any good answers, so I thought I would throw this
out to you.

Running Windows (5.00.2195 SP4) and Office 2000 (SR-1) on a decent laptop,
accessing my .pst folder saved on the network (for backup purposes), Outlook
hangs up or is extremely slow. This is regardless of opening up folders or
transfering emails. The pst is large (265MB) if it makes any difference.
Network connections are good (T1). I can access the network folder it is save
on without any problems and open documents from there.

Thoughts?
Thanks.

True... I do it, but accept the limitation that whatever goes wrong is up to
me to figure out since there are many variables in WAN/LAN setups. With
many variables means it becomes a support nightmare for Microsoft since they
don't have the time to help me troubleshoot my network issues. Of course, I
bet they have contractors that would love to come in and help solve things
for a price. ;)
