Difficulty with Outlook

I'm having a very difficult time using Outlook with my
internet provider, Adelphia.net. For some unknown
reason, I can't use Outlook even though Outlook is my
default email. I keep getting nonsensical error
messages. I contacted Adelphia.net, and they said it was
either a Microsoft problem or a firewall problem. I
haven't a clue.

The error messages are not, as you claim, "nonsensical". They contain the
key to solving your problem. Post their exact texts.
