Can anyone tell me why some of the sound icons have music
notes and some have lines representing "sound waves" (I
guess)? Does that represent the difference between linked
and embedded sounds? and if so, which is which? or
something completely different?

Also I have a question reguarding the location of a sound
file? I have a sound file that tells me when I go to the
edit sound object that it is "contained in presentation".
How can I locate that file?

Thanks in advance,
Kelli

Kelli,

I guess the sounds waves icon represents (digital audio wav files)
and the musical notes represent (midi files)

If the sound file is contained in presentation, then it is a WAV file. To
extract it you will need to save the presentation as Web Page. PowerPoint will
generate one file and a sub-folder on numerous files. You'll find the WAV file
in the sub-folder.
