Different Attributes for Headings in TOC or Body

How can I have an attribute set for level two headings in the body of
a document that does not carry over to the level two headings in the
TOC? For example, I would like to have my L1 headings bolded in the
body and also in the TOC, but my L2 headings bolded in the body but
not the TOC.

If you make bold part of the Heading 2 style, it will not be picked up by
the TOC. Only direct font formatting is picked up by the TOC, not the
Default Paragraph Font.

Thanks. So if I *do* want bold in the L1 TOC entries, would I need
to redefine that style to remove the bold, and then to reapply it
by direct formatting?

I think you would just add bold to the TOC1 style, which controls the
appearance of the TOC.

Yes, sorry. I misread the original post. The correct way to do this is to
include Bold in the formatting of both Heading 1 and TOC 1.
