We are heavy users of PPT XP and we are considering upgrading to 2003,
however we've heard conflicting stories regarding compatibility between shows
created within PPT XP and then opened in PPT 2003. Examples of problems
incurred are pictures that were copied into XP files and appear OK don't
appear when opened in 2003.

We have also experienced problems with text & graph slides (generated in PPT
XP)not appearing when the show file is opened in 2003.

Does anyone have a full list of limitations when opening PPT XP files in PPT
2003. A list of conflicts would be very useful a well.

I would appreciate any feedback on this matter.

The "not appearing" issue was resolved with an update/"critical patch" which
was released immediately after Office 2003 was released. That update is now
a full-blown service pack -- SP-1.

So, when you first open PPT 2003, go to Help/About and click on Check for
Updates. Let SP-1 install, and you should not see the issue with
disappearing images.

You can also check for updates after you have installed Office/PowerPoint
2003 at http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/

If you wish, you can download the Office 2003 SP1 update now and run it
after you install Office/PowerPoint 2003.

There are 2 files listed on that page.

Office2003SP1-kb842532-client-enu.exe
download this if you HAVE access to your Office/PowerPoint 2003 CD

Office2003SP1-kb842532-fullfile-enu.exe
download this if you DO NOT have acces to your Office/PowerPoint 2003 CD or
if you experienced problems installing the
Office2003SP1-kb842532-client-enu.exe file

I would recommend that you download Office2003SP1-kb842532-fullfile-enu.exe
so that you won't need to get your Office/PowerPoint 2003 CD.
