Hi
Can somebody explain me what is the difference between offline and online registry
And how can I switch from online to offline registry in WinXPE

Thanks
Yur

You can't switch between offline and online registry. (You can switch
between OS-es)

Simply put:
If you can access \windows\system32\config\*. files than it is offline
registry (registry that belong to windows that is not active)
If you can't then this registry belong to current active windows and you
can't use files directly but you can access it directly using regedit (no
need to import and export data).

Hi Slobodan
You say
Open secondary windows and access your registry offline (this will eliminate all unnecessary temporary values that you don't need to use)
Then go to HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001> Find and export all data related to this driver from following keys
.......

Please explain me, how I can access my registry offline?

Sorry for my childish question ;-
Yur

I have explained this already.

1. Use the other os not the one that hold lock on registry files. (You can
use Win XPe for this purpose)
2. open regedit
3. create key in registry (wherever you want)
4. select this key
5. use import option and switch it to hive.
6. find system. file and import it.

Slobodan

Hi Slobodan
I think that I understand what you mean. I just need to connect my WinXP hard disk as secondary to the other PC with Win XP or WinXPE. And import needed registry components from my offline registry

If so, I will try
Thank you very much
Yur

Yes.
Or you can use first XPe CD that is bootable.
Then you can copy config folder to other place on disk.
Then when you are back in WinXP you can use regedit of copy of registry.

Yury,

If your target has a CD-ROM and allows you to boot it, boot from WinPE (XPE/SP1 1st CD). This way you can easily have access to the
registry on your target storage offline (copy/edit with regedit, etc.).
