i did not receive xp sp2. why? I have automatic updates on. Is there a web
site where I can download it?

Why do you constantly send posters looking for SP2 to the site that is
specifically designed for IT professionals and developers. The site clearly
states "DO NOT DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER" and
recommends to just make sure that automatic update is set on ones computer.
In due time, all users with automatic updates set will eventually receive
the update.
I would think that an MVP would at least respect the wishes of Microsoft.

I'll go out on a limb in Carey's defense.

Perhaps the original poster was given a Web site where they could download
it because the original poster asked "Is there a web site where I can
download it?" A correct answer to a direct question.

That download works the same on "just one computer" as on several and allows
one to burn it to CD for later use so it doesn't have to be downloaded again
in the event of a system crash, and/or so a slipstreamed XPSP2 CD can be
created. The created SP2 CD could also be passed to friends so they don't
have to download it. Both scenarios ultimately benefit Microsoft in terms of
reduced bandwidth and production/mailing cost on SP2 CDs.

I guess you missed the point I was trying to make. I know the download
works, why wouldn't it but then again why would Microsoft state that they
don't want single computer users using that link to download the upgrade.
Frank Saunders, MS-MVP, IE/OE gave the proper answer, which is, be patient,
it's coming or order the cd.

You're kinda dense aren't you? The original poster asked where he could
find a web page to download the file. Carey Frisch gave the correct answer.
Probably the reason that MS encourages downloaders to wait until the
automatic updates come through is because they don't want millions of
computers trying to download this enormous file from their server at the
same time. Duhhhh!

You missed my point. Microsoft gives its blessing to people who want to
download from that link.

Been discussed here many times, including why it's okay, and, once again I
say, has been recommended and posted by MS employees in the WINXP
newsgroups.

For cryin' out loud, why not do something productive with your time?
