Did MS update disable new mail envelope icon? 2nd request

I've read thru all the posts on how to activate the new mail tray icon. I've
always had mine set up to show the envelope but it suddenly stopped working.
After checking the settings, it occured to me that I had downloaded several
MS suggested updates around the same time this happened.
Does anyone know if MS has a subsequent update that resets this function?
My outlook version is XP - 2002.

Perhaps you have that icon set to hide when inactive. Right-click on your
Task Bar and choose Properties. Click Customize. Scroll down until you
find the envelope icon and choose "Always Show" from the drop down to its
right. Click OK.
