Dialup connection seems to override everything, even when it isn't the Default

I have XP Home installed. I have wireless capability. I also needed to
create a dialup connection. However, when I try to connect to e-mail
or my browser, the dialup dialogue box pops up. Even when dialup isn't
the default, I couldn't find a way to establish the wireless
connection until I DELETED the dialup connection. There must be an
easy way around this problem -- a way to specify which connection is
to be used. Do I need to specify the metrics? Or is there another way?

Run Internet Explorer, click Tools | Internet Options | Connections,
and select "Never dial a connection".

When you want to use the dial-up connection, start it up manually.
