XP
Modem
SBCglobal dial-up software

(5 eliminations)
already replaced the modem. problem still exist.
uninstalled and re-installed the SBC global software. problem still exist.
uninstalled SBC dial-up software and installed AOL. same problem. I am
confused.
tried it over a friends house. same problem.
FDISK and Re-installed XP. problem still exist.

The problem is that once I connect and go to a second web page, I lose my
network
connection. I can ping yahoo.com before I browse to a second page but
afterwards
I can not ping yahoo.com meaning I am not connected. Right?

One mystery is that my modem is still connected because my phone line is
still busy.

And it is showing activity.

Any ideas? I'm stuck.

Regards,
T.

You've done a great job of troubleshooting. There are only two things I
don't see: 1) scan with current antivirus using updated definitions; 2)
remove spyware with tools like Spybot Search & Destroy and/or Ad-aware
(I like to use both). Also, just for cleanliness, empty your Temporary
Internet Files folder. When you are sure the box is clean, does the
problem persist? If yes, post back.

I scanned the system. And cleaned the temp files and history. Same
problem.

OK, you've got me stumped. Since you tried at a friend's house and the
problem was still there, it can't be the physical telephone line. Since
you don't have any viruses or spyware, it can't be a hijacking or
general crashing. Since you tried with a different modem, it can't be
the particular modem. The only other thing I can think of is that you
should try an external modem in case the difficulty comes from your
motherboard and its pci bus (assuming your modem is pci - since your
running XP, you must have a fairly new computer and not be using ISA).
Sorry, but if you ever do find out, please post back so we will all
learn.
