DMy PC automatically makes a connection to the internet when I switch it on.
(It didn't used to do this - I'm not sure what I have done to inadvertently
change things - but I am now running Internet Explorer 7.) I have explored
most, if not all of the tabs in the 'properties' of my connection, but can't
find any way to stop it from happening. Does anyone know how to do this?

What is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is
clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

Have you tried the following:

Control Panel
Internet Options
Click the Connections Tab
Choose "never dial a connection" radio button
