Using Word 97.

I want to place a diagonal line (from either bottom-left to top-right,
or top-left to bottom-right) in certain cells in a table. I know I can
use Draw to make this line, but I want to be sure that the line is
somehow attached to the cell, so that if the cell moves, the line moves
with it. Is this possible?

You need Word 2002 or 2003 to achieve this in Word. However, I believe that
you could do that in Excel 97 (but it was a long time ago to be sure).

Highlight the cell(s) you need the diagonal line. Right click and pick "Borders and Shading". In the section on the left pick the diagonal line you want, make sure that "Cell" is selected in the "Apply to" drop down below it and click "ok".

Thank you.

I don't "wander" into that area very often.

I believe there's a button for it on the Tables and Borders toolbar as well.

HEH! Guess I'm a linear thinker, but only if it's
horizontal or vertical. As much as I've use tables, I've
overlooked that option.
