DHCP Client failure

The DHCP Client is not running on my XP machine because
it depends on the "FireWall-1 service" which failed to
start because it cannot be found.

I just installed a DSL line and router yesterday. The
router has a built-in firewall. My XP Pro laptop
computer connects via the DSL router, but not this XP
machine, which could not obtain a dynamic IP address. I
suspected the v-com NetDefense Firewall I had previously
installed system was interfering with either the dynamic
assignment or the firewall embedded in the router, so I
uninstalled NetDefense using Window's Add/Remove Programs
(per v-com's instructions).

I have checked the System Log and confirmed that this
error has existed in the DHCP Client long prior to my
uninstall of NetDefense. I have also checked all network
connections in control panel and confirmed that XP's
Internet Firewall has not been enabled.

How do I reactivate DHCP client? By removing the
dependency of the DHCP client on "Firewall-1"? By
reinstalling "firewall-1"? If so, from where?

Thanks.

take a manual restore point for safe keeping.
Look at this registry key:
hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\dhcp
DependOnService
You'll see the things it depends on in a multi string format.
Really, the previous firewall you had installed should be asked
about this, perhaps they have a fix or suggestion.
If that fails, you may try editing the above key to remove it.
