DFRGFAT.EXE Application error

Hello,

My HDD is 80 GB and im using WinXP. When I try to
defragment the disk, I get this application error: "the
instruction at "0x77f580db" referenced memory
at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written". Click
on OK to terminate the program."
When I click on OK this follows: "the instruction
at "0x77f69d63" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate
the program."

Does anybody know the solution to this problem?

Boot to safe mode (press F8 during POST) and try running the defrag
program. If it refuses to run, open a command prompt (from RUN type
in cmd.exe) and type in chkdsk /f. The system will respond that it
can not lock the drive and ask if you wish to run chkdsk on the next
boot. Respond yes and reboot your machine. After the chkdsk program
is finished and you have booted back into XP, try running defrag
again.
