I have 2 external enclosures for my DVD recorder and hard drive.

The DVD recorder is known to Windows as "JNC 1394 Storage+Repeater
IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device" and the hard drive is known as "Generic 1394 USB
COMBO IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device".

I know these names are derived from the hardware contained in the
interface between the enclosures and the drives themselves, but can I
rename them so it's easier to spot which is which at a quick glance?

Thanks in advance, Nate.

what connection methiod are you using? firewire or usb 2.
i have the same external drives as you using usb and they
are assigned regular drive letters.

They both are USB and Firewire combinations, but I use Firewire because
I only have 2 USB connectors that my TV Capture box and Mouse are using.
Both devices are daisy-chained together.

i don't know much about firewire that may be the way
windows names these devices.
until you find out another way you can right click on the
drives in my computer and choose create shortcut, then
rename the shortcut to any thing you want.
