device manager

In my XP Home device manager the processor is listed and
it shows a device driver for it, why ? I have a 1999
pentium III 500 mhz Gateway, and just can not see why a
processor would need a driver to function. thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,

Consider the alternative.
Suppose you had a 3GHz P4, or a 22GHz P7.... would you expect your OS to
talk to it in the same manner?
