there seems to be a problem with the device manager show
two processors instead of one. neither
shows a problem i even reloaded windows an got a newer
release with sp1 but i get the same thing. if this
happened in the bios or general information i would think
it was hardware but everywhere eles it appears as it
should it is just in device manager it shows two
3.0 g intel p4 800, p4c800-e asus mainboard, kingston ddr
400 daul channell, 80&40g hd,windowsxp c/w sp1

3GHz P4s..
Hyperthreading..

Yep - it shows two because of Hyperthreading Technology.

It's a GOOD thing - not a bad thing.

XP Home supports 1 physical cpu ie 1x p4 3ghz.
XP Pro support 2 physical cpu's ie 2x p4 3ghz

However when hyperthreading is enabled, the the operating system sees two
cpu's. 1 physical and 1 logical.
Although XP Home only supports one physical cpu, it can make use of
hyperthreading as it can differentiate between physical and logical cpu's so
will see two cpu's.

XP Pro can use two physical cpu's with hyperthreading (ie it sees a total of
4 cpu's. 2 physical 2 logical.)

Windows 2000 CAN make use of hyperthreading, but cant tell the difference
between physical and logical cpu's. (Sees a hyperthreading cpu as two
physical cpu's.

It should show 2 processors--you are using a processor with hyper-threading.
With hyper-threading, each processor is seen as a physical processor and a
virtual processor. Windows sees this and uses both processors.
