Device Installer Error

I have WinXP Home SP1, 1.4GHz Athlon, 768MB memory. I recently got a USB2
Flash Disk and a USB2 Maxtor external HDD.
Whenever I power up I get, for each of them, the message: Device Installer
Error. Windows cannot load the installer for... Contact your hardware vendor
for assistance.' When I click OK my system accesses the internet and, for
each of them, brings up the Found New Hardware Wizard, even tho everything
is already installed.
If I click Cancel, I can write to both devices, but can't see them in My
Computer/Explorer -- though they appear occasionally for a short time. Any
suggestions as to what's wrong?
 
I have being trying to download disc for coolpix 2100 camera that i just got. I keep getting error, insert disc please. Can you help?
 
Don't think your post belongs in this thread!
But since you ask, if a software CD came with the camera, I suggest you put
it in your CD drive when requested.
