I recently installed Mandrake 10.0 offical on my Dell 4600 running XP.
Afterwords, when I boot XP I get a Device Install Error "Windows could
not load the installer for volume..." I close the window and it pops up
two more times. I close it those two times and it never shows up again
and the computer seems to run fine. This happens every time I boot to
XP.
I've checked:
a) the startup directory (The only program there is Office Startup)
b) the win.ini file (I don't have a "Load" section)
c) KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Run
(all the references there are fimiliar...nothing out of the ordinary.)
If I delete the Mandrake partitions and execute fixmbu from the recovery
console I get a clean booting XP system again. Is there something that
Mandrake is doing to the MBR that is making this happen? Is there
someway to look at the MBR? ...any suggestions?
Thanks Jon
