I cannot figure out how to setup updating device drivers or reinstalling
them, whereas the hardware installation wizard can go to the Microsoft
website to seek out Microsoft driver files if available. I can only setup to
search drivers locally on the hard disk or browse floppies etc. On my other
computer the ability to do so is there. I am running XP Pro. What settings
must I change to get this to happen?

TIA Daddio

The last thing you want to do is use winupdate drivers.
Theres no need to update any driver unless
1) It cures a problem
2) or gives extra functionality / performance
Then if you must use only drivers from hw manu sites.
Winupdate drivers are 'default' drivers.

First never get hardware driver updates from the MS site unless it's for
MS manufactured hardware. Otherwise go to the device manufacturer's
site if it's retail hardware, the computer OEM's site if it's a large
OEM, like Dell or HP, or if the device is integrated on the mobo go to
the mobo manufacturer's web site.

Don't upgrade device drivers just to have the latest. Only do so if the
new driver has a fix to a problem you're experiencing or it has a new
feature you must have.
