deterministic network enhancer

what the heck is this anyway? I have a laptop and whenever I connect to my
LAN I get disconnect problems every so often where my offline files are
unavailable...frustrating. I unchecked deterministic network enhancer and
QOS packet thingy and it's fixed. any idea what I did?
