Made a mistake to download garbage and now upon reboot there is no icon on
the desktop. No doubt its virus/trojan etc infected, so besides running the
anti virus etc(hopefully they appear after the scan) is there any other
solutions that I can try. Thank you.

Your Desktop Icons Are Missing in Windows XP

Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll down to
Item No. 195 (right column), click on "Restore Desktop Icons and
Taskbar".

Install the registry fix, then reboot your computer.

After scanning as a secondary slave ( and virus removed, mostly adware ) the
situation still remains the same. When you on the pc, there are no icons on
desktop. When I right click trhe destop, there is no dialogue box, hence,
330170 is not applicable. Neither can I get to Kelleys website.

Can get access to Windows Task Manager, which process shall I 'on' it, since
the usage of the cpu shows very negigible usage. TIA

If I start in safe mode, after loading the necessary 'things' it will give
me a black page, and nothing seems to work. Right click, there is no dialogue
page. Press Alt/ctrl/del will give me the Windows Task Manager with
"taskmgr.exe" showing some cpu usage while all the rest are at 00. Also the
System Idle Process SYSTEM is at 99. Please help, TIA
