XP Home has locked me out of a mail database that I
desperately need access to. The mail program is not
running, nor are any of it's processes.
I had renamed the file previously, moved it to a backup
directory, and then changed the name of the directory.
This is what has likely caused the problem. Whenever I
try to do anything to the file, I get an "Access is
denied" message. There is another old mail file in the
same directory (with the same extension) which is not
affected.
I've tried enabling network file sharing for the backup
directory (which has worked in such cases in the past),
but this still doesn't give me access to this file. Some
KB docs spoke about accessing a dialogue with 'Security
Tabs', but my XP Home dialogues don't seem to have any
such tabs. I'm also the only registered user on the PC,
and I believe I have Administrator rights.
I'm at a total loss at this point in terms of what I
should do to get access to this file. I'm wondering if
there might be something in the registry which I need to
alter, or if I might have to somehow temporarily bypass
or turn off the NTFS file security (however this might be
done).
Any help or ideas would be MUCH appreciated !
Thanks,
Paul
