hiy
hoep someone can give me some sort of clue to this proble
it started about a week ago when my computer just started switching itslef off, like the power cable was shorting, so i checked the cables and they seemd fine, they came n after a wiggle about
anyway this kept happening, so i decided i would buy some new cables or even invest in a new comp, this one is getting near to retirement ag

After one of the initial startup after it switched itself off i did notice some erros coming up under disk check as something wrong with system registry 32 and soem files were being truncated??? does that make sense??

Well i went on yesterday and it looked like windows was starting up for the first time, which ithough strange, so i replaced everything i could, got my desktop back ot how it was, then i noticed all my stored passwords had gone,
Now this morning, the whole of My documentments and my pictures have been wiped. gone i have done a search and cant find the

Now the bigger problem is i have a firewall activated, i have norten activated plus i have checked for the worms and bugs and nothing. norten i scan everyother day and it always says no virus

Not really sure what to do, but i know all my university work has dissapeared and my family picture
and yes i should have becked them up but i didnt
please can anyone give me some sort of explaination
kind regad

Your hard disk sound like it failing, fast. If the data is important STOP USING YOUR COMPUTER NOW. Turn off at powerpoint. Take disk to shop to have data sucked of it if possible.

so it isnt a virus??
something is wrong with my disk drive
any ideas on how i can get my uni work back if at all?

Thanks dav

You have to buy a new hard drive anyway. There's more things to try but they will make recovery of data probably impossible. If you want look in Event Viewer and see what errors are there. Esp entries containing S.M.A.R.T

Notes
a.. To open Event Viewer, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
b.. For information about using Event Viewer, in Event Viewer, on the Action menu, click Help.

Remove the drive from your system and keep it safe.. either buy a new
computer or get a new drive and re-install the Operating System.. your
money, your call.. then go to this website.. it is a link to a free file
recovery program..and it works.. it is not as accomplished as some progs
that you would pay for, but will recover photos and documents.. you will, of
course, have to install the damaged drive back into the pc to recover the
files from it..

Hope all works out well for you..
