OK - To BOTH suggestion messages on another forum: Folder "\web\wallpaper"
had only a few, normal, non-weird files in it and is verified to be correct
path in REGEDIT, although I must wonder why it is in a "/web" folder when we
are talking local DeskTop backgrounds. Either way, I didn't use it as the
repository for my desktop backgrounds, anyway.
- I have now loaded in
about 30 BMP's and still have the problem of the [Desktop] Tab in desktop
proprerties loading 2-300 nonsense files + the few remaining in C:/windows.
(The wallpaper for the my Desktop has always "lived" in my "C:/windows"
folder happily for years and the ones I DO use DO reside there ALONG WITH the
new 200-300 items in that long list that NOW (Not last week) finally shows up
after 20 minutes or so under the [Desktop] tab under "display properties"
function (Just right-click on any part of the desktop background image and
click 'properties', then "[Desktop] Tab to see your list.) -- MINE has gone
from 22 items being listed to 200+ ever since (it appears) I tried to install
a "Matrix" style "opening screen" in XP. (simply copying 2 files into
"/windows" directory).. - They have been deleted and system has been
scanned/defragged/adwared/ad nauseam to no avail. Plus is not installed, and
the other 3 directories are empty or clean.
I suspect crosslinking, but there is no "scandisk" in my XP-Home files to
check -
Is that right? - IS there another Program I can check for "cross-links" with??
WHERE doies that [Desktop] Tab GET it's "instructions" whewre to look (other
than the registry entry calling out /web/wallpaper" ? is there an INI I have
missed. When I close the PROPERTIES window manually it reports that
RUNDLL32.EXE (Run dll as an app) is not responding (Of course, it WAS still
loading those 200+ files when stopped ny me)
This IS a weird one, folks!
