My PC did not re-activate after being left on Stand By
mode. With my lap-top I never had this problem but with
the desktop ON/OFF button on the mini-tower did not
respond. I unplugged and re-plugged the system to start
all over PC does not start now. What should I do without
losing any data on my hard disk?

Thanks Nick,

Not far at all. I Can boot up with WinXP CD and it reports
failure to locate my hard disk and recommends I use a
diagnostic tool provided by equipment supplier. Do you
think this has damaged my hard disk? Any suggestions?

Hi,

Very possibly a damaged drive, but not necessarily due to using standby. The
drive diagnostic is definitely the next step.

Oh dear, I was afraid of that. But why would it happen
straight after being left in Standby mode? I can only
think of one trigger and that's it. How could a software
glitch cause a problem like that!

Hi,

Coincidence perhaps - but a damaged drive is not necessarily due to
software. In fact, it may not have anything to do at all with the Operating
System and programs installed to it.
