Created shortcuts to hardrive partitions C & D and they worked fine . Now
when I click on the shortcut 'search' opens. right click shows search at top
 
Go to Start/Run and enter: regsvr32 /i shell32

To add to the other posts this happens when you change the Drive entry via
File Types dialog.
