Does anyone have any ideas for the above. I am reluctant to download
Serif 5 as it requires all your personal details such as address etc. It
is for a friends 14 year old girl. I have put Ragtime Solo on her laptop
for her for now, but she is wondering if it it will be enough for what
she wants.
Are there any others that I have missed?
Thanks in advance

How about Ragtime Solo? Get it here:

Great, merciful heavens!
Do you actually bother to READ the messages you reply to?
It would appear not - or your comprehension is non-existent.

Well, it depends on what she wants to do. RagTime is quite a good and
powerful program, at least as powerful as Serif. There is another free DTP
program (Scribus, <http://www.scribus.org.uk/>) but that is only available
for Linux and BSD-Unix at the moment.

I read somewhere that they were working on a Windows port, though.
Would be very nice...

I'm sorry! The next time I will submit my post to your Awesome

If I were any more relaxed, I'd be a blob of jelly ... and don't "dude"

Be careful how low you bow, someone might come along and take a punt at
your butt. Oh, and don't try to be too sarcastic - you aren't very good
at it.

I think she wants to do newsletter type pages, the sort of thing you
might want to do for a school magazine or flyer. I do recall her talking
about wanting fancy borders too. Although I have Ragtime Solo I have
never got past the tutorial to see exactly what there is in that line due
to so many things going on.

Like you and your people skills? Troll!

What deludes you into thinking you qualify as people, billy-goat?

I'm now so saddened that this is what becomes freeware. :(
What is' next *grumpy*? Sending a "CD" to innocent froup users?

I am glad he responded before me. I missed the latter of her post as
well. I am very enthused with Ragtime as well. I too didn't like Serif
and downloaded both. Perhaps it's due to the fact I downloaded last
week and got the input from here. Enthusiasim for a particular program
may cause one to miss part of a post along with my poor eyesight.

RagTime Solo is well worth the 15 or so minutes it takes to get through
the tutorial - a very powerful DTP program for the price ;)

To a lesser degree, the Drawing program in Open Office is excellent for
whipping up good looking flyers etc; and easy to get to learn basic DTP
with. <http://www.openoffice.org/product/index.html>

Flyers are definitely not a problem, they are mentioned in the manual. If
she means "newspaper" as the usual A4-size brochure we had in school: That
can be done with RagTime, including fancy borders. It will need some
practise and tinkering, but that is possible.
