Desktop problem

I have a white square that covers the majority of my desktop icons. It covers
almost half of the screen and I cannot remove it. When I move the coursor
into the area of the square I show the active hourglass. When I move out of
the square I can access the shortcuts on the square's perimeter. This is
probably a simple problem to solve, but it has me perplexed. Any thoughts?
Thanks.
(I would appreciate a direct e-mail response to: (e-mail address removed).)

Sorry, no email response. Sounds like you have set an
active desktop item that is stuck on a dead refresh. Remove
the desktop item using display properties.

Jim:
Thank you for your solution to the problem, but I guess I'm not as
computer literate as I should be. What am I looking for to make the erasure?
Thanks.

Right click on a blank area of the desktop and select
properties. Then select the desktop tab, then "customize
desktop and then the web tab. Delete the extra item (all
you want there is "my current homepage")
