Every month or so, my Windows XP SP2 desktop goes on the blink. Suddenly, a
folder options pane comes up on the left. When this happens everything on
the desktop is no longer movable.
The only solution I have found is to re-boot my entire system. Luckily, I
can retrieve items on my desktop by going to the desktop folder in Documents
and Settings folder, but the whole thing is a frequent pain in the arse.
If I sign in as a new user, the problem is not there, which leads me to
suspect it has something to do with a corrupted NTUSER.DAT file, but there is
no way to replace that file, even if I boot up in Linux.
Any suggestions?
