Drew

I recently upgraded to XP Home. I'm having a problem with
my desktop icons. The icon for various files randomly
switches from it's default (depending on the program or
file) to something else (grabbing icon graphics from the
icon file list in windows). It's really only a
inconvienience but it does defeat the purpose of having
icons attached to desktop items. Any possible help on
this?
Thanks.

Right click the desktop icon or file you want changed and then click the change icon button near the bottom on the shortcut tab of if you foolishly keep entire files on your desktop then right click and click properties and then the customize tab. You should only ever have shortcuts on your desktop not whole files.

I understand how to assign icons to folders, etc. Where I'm running into problems generally has to do with the thumbnails of certain graphic files. IE: Photoshop, Illustrator. The problem seems to be that the thumbnail graphic keeps switching around to random .ico files. For example, if I have a photoshop file and save it to my desktop, it creates a small thumbnail of the file. The problem is that the thumbnail, at any given point or time, switches to a thumbnail of say, the "my computer" icon or uses the "stuff-it" icon. The link to the file doesn't change, just the icon thumbnail. If I reboot then the icons will be correct again but will eventually switch over again to another random .ico thumbnail
Make any sense?
