On one of my XP PCs the desktop icons for some reason aren't big enough
to have enough room for all the text, in other words, the name of the
shortcut, so Netscape Navigator becomes Netsca... Navigat..
I can't seem to find a setting that will change this. Any ideas?

Hello Alice,

Try right-click the desktop and clicking on Properties.
Click the Appearance tab and click the Advanced button.
In the Item drop-down selection box, scroll down to 'Icon spacing
(Horizontal)' and increase its value to say, 32 or as high as you have
to go.
Another way would be to decrease the size of the font used in 'Icon' in
the same drop-down selection box.

1. Right Click a clear spot on the desktop and choose “Propertiesâ€
2. In the Properties Window click on the “Appearance Tab†at the top.
3. In the Appearance Window (lower right area) click “Advancedâ€
4. On the Advanced Window in the “Item:†box, click the drop down list
arrow and choose “Iconâ€. There you can choose desired Icon, font type and
size. Default icon size is 32 pixels. Try "Tahoma" font at size 8.
