Had a power failure; computer shut down and rebooted. Everything is
working and all programs and info are intact; however; my desktop icons
have all disappeared. No big deal; just wondering if there is an easy
way to get them back.
Running Windows 7. Have tried system restore on two recent restore
points with negative results.

?????
This is the Windows XP newsgroup. What did the Win7 newsgroup guys
suggest?

I've gone through this before! If there are Windows 7 newsgroups; my ISP
does not provide them.
I have posted the same question on the Microsoft Windows 7 forum. No
replies.

Got it to work. Did a "Google" and it appears that it is a problem that
other people have had. This is the solution:

"right click desktop>personalization>change desktop icons>restore default>ok

then do

right click desktop>view>show desktop items"

Maybe you need to delete (to rebuild) the iconcache file (don't know what
its called on Windows 7)

In WinXP, it's called "iconcache.db", in the Local Settings\Application Data
subfolder.

Desktop icons are considered user files and System Restore only manipulates
system settings and things like services, registry entries, etc.

Do you have a folder on your desktop called "Unused Desktop Icons" or
something similar?
