I have an Excel 2000 document shortcut on my desktop, as well as the Office 2000 Shortcut bar. WHen I click on either of these, Windows Installer pops up wanting to configure Office 2000, which I have no disk for, instead of opening the file. Why? I can retrieve the file just fine manually, and when I added a shortcut for Excel from the manually retrieved program, that one worked fine. How do I fix this?

Tried the fixes, but they didn't work. For the first two days after I upgraded to XP, the desktop link to the excel file I'm working on worked fine, but after downloading the OneNote preview, it doesn't. The desktop icon for Word works fine, as does the new desktop shortcut for Excel, but no matter how many times I place the Excel file on the desktop, it tries to run Windows Installer. I tried SYstem Restore, and rolling the registry back, but all that accomplished was screwing up OneNote, which I'm trying to reinstall. Help!
