Desktop icon positions

When I dock my laptop and switch from the laptop screen to a flat monitor on
my desk all my icons on my desktop move to different locations and some are
partly off the screen. How can I stop them from changing location?

I don't think that there is as they're changed when the resolution is
changed. However you might try this:
