Desktop Icon in Qucik Launch

For some reason the Desk Top icon in Quick launch that used to open my desk
top over the
top of whatever window was on my screen has now defaulted to a window from
Windows Explorer which shows the desktop directory in Windows Explorer
format.
How do I convert the focus of the icon back to the desktop proper with
background photo etc.

I have attached the file needed to show your desktop. Just place this in the
follow directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch
