I've got some network resources mapped to drives and have shortcuts to the
maps on my desktop and everything was fine until I got a new machine. Now,
even after removing the mapping and remapping the drives, the shortcuts on
the desktop are displayed with a red circle containing a question mark
superimposed on them.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks & Ciao,

Tony

You've made adjustments on the new machine. What about on the old machine?
Have you reset the shares so that they're allowed to be accessed by the new
computer?

Hi Sharon,

Thanks for the response. The shares to which I'm creating shortcuts live on
servers, so I don't think changing anything on the old machine would make a
difference since the path does not reference it.

However, I got the problem solved. I removed the mappings, REBOOTED, and
recreated them and everything is back to normal. Again, not sure why since
the paths only referred to the servers, but I'm not going to complain.

Thanks again for the response & Ciao,

Tony

Whew, I'm glad you got this sorted. Networking experience is limited to
peer-to-peer. No idea why the reboot before mapping did the trick. Changes
in security or credentials take place with a log off/log on or a restart.
There may have been something of that nature that needed to processed
before you could recreate your shortcuts. Congratulations on getting this
sorted and thanks for letting us know how you accomplished that.
