Some advertising program has hijacked my desktop-it is
active in the background. How can I remove it from my
computer?

Hi

See if these programs find any spyware on your system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Also see the following links:

i use all 3 of thoes programs. That should get rid of
most of the problem. I had 367 spyware items on my
computer the other day and spybot did good at detecting
the ones that the other programs missed.
I would use spybot and the other one whatever it is
called. Adaware doesnt do a very good job- it misses a
lot of programs and other stuff.

Do you know what the program is called?

It's called SmartProtect. I have all those programs also.
It was not found by those programs.

I have most of those but I'll try some of the other ones.
It's actually on my desktop-over it and not within IE.

Open Control Panel - Display and go to the Background tab. Change the
selected background to (None). Click on Apply and OK as needed to
exit.

That may resolve the problem.

Good luck

I have asked the same ? and have not gotten a answer.
Mine came from a screen savor site, and it has hijacked
my desktop too. I have tried an "adware" removal software
but it only "growls"(the one i can't get rid of) at me
and will not(no matter what i have tried) allow its
componets to be removed. My computer is now running at a
much slower speed, busy with background activities.

These are difficult to remove because they are hard to identify. However, try
to find it's name or the site where it goes and do a find in the registry and
delete anything related to the name/address.

No luck!
