Please help!

Our power went out earlier today and when I went to my computer a little
while later I had to turn it back on. It would not finish bootin gup and
just showed the background, but no desktop, not even a START button or
anything. I have shut down several times, but nothing. I cannot even get to
the starte menu to go to accessories to try a system restore.

I can open programs by entering contril-alt-delete to bring up the task
manager and open one program at a time, but my desktop is still completely
gone.

Please help....Thank you!!!

Reboot, press F8 over and over during boot, try "last known good
configuration" from that menu, if it doesn't work try the safe mode WITHOUT
networking and restore option.

Microsoft techs would tell you to,in desktop, press the Ctrl_Alt_Delete keys,
opening task mgr,in mgr.,new task,type:cmd In cmd type:Sfc /Scannow
When the file checker starts, install xp cd,exit the info page. When its thru,
type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,then type:EXIT Restart computer,remove
xp cd.

I tried this, but it couldn't find :cmd when I typed it in, plus I cannot
find my XP disk as of yet.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you for your help, but I tried both methods and nothing yet. When I
first tried the F8 for the last good config, I got a blue screen that I never
saw before saying that there was an error with IPVNMON.SYS:
Page_fault_IN_Nonpaged_arch

Then I did safe mode and it just gave me a blank screen after logging in
under my name.

Any other suggestions?

It's "cmd" without the colon. However, if you can run a command try this one
"%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe" without the quotes and then
restore to an earlier time. Now would also be a good time to find your XP
disk or get a replacement.
