I have a folder popping up every where I look on my computer...When I open a
folder with several files in it, all of a sudden there exists a notepad file
called "desktop".

What is this file that I keep encountering?

Thanks,

FLKulchar

The file is called "Desktop.ini" and is a system file. You are seeing this
file everyone because "Hide Protected Operating System File (Recommened)"
option is unchecked under "My Computer - Tools - Folder Options"

This file contain the basic information about the folder. This file tells
Windows that how to display the contents of that particular folder. For
example, if you have enabled the "Thumbnail" or have changed the Folder Icon
then Windows will save this information in Desktop.ini of that particular
folder.

Hope this help, let us know!
