I recently was working on my mother's computer and for some reason the icon
descriptions on the desktop switched to black. It used to be clear or had no
color. Does anyone have any clue on how to change it back?

Thanks in advance for any help.

1. Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties.
2. Click "Advanced" tab.
3. Click the "Settings" button under "Performance".
4. Make a check mark on "Use drop shadows for icon labels".

Hope this is what you are looking for, let us know!

Thank you for your quick reply. I tried out your steps on my computer and I
was able to go back and forth between color and drop shadows. When I then
tried on my mother's computer, the color would not disapper. It stayed black
and did not "blend" like my computer. We even tried clicking on the "custom"
button as well as the "let windows do what is best for my comuter" button,
but no such luck. Am I missing something or is there some trick that I am
missing.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Four things are required for transparent icon backgrounds:

1) System Properties>Advanced>Performance Settings>Visual Effects -
check
“use drop shadows for icon labelsâ€.

2) Right-click on Desktop>Arrange Icons by>Lock web items must be cleared.

3) If you have any web content on your desktop, transparency won’t work.
To check for web content: Display Properties>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Web -
make sure all check boxes are clear.

4) Wallpaper must be an image file, not html.

Yes, "Drclouse" is right. I was missing that one. "Lock Web Item on Desktop"
must be unchecked.

Thanks for Update "Drclouse".
