Iwant to us the "bliss" background and display my icons
with titles ONLY in white type (with no rectangular
backing behind the white type). I was set up this way but
lost it and now can only display icon titles on a blue
rectangle below the icon.

I assume I will be notified at the above Email address if
there is a reply by some kind soul.

Thanks!

JOE

Can't assume anything but....

You have to disable Active Desktop to get the text transparent again

(1) Right-click desktop > Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web
Uncheck all the boxes in "Web Pages"

(2) Right -click desktop > Arrange Icons by > Uncheck "Lock Web Items on
Desktop"

At Control Panel - System - Advanced - in Performance click Settings -
in the Custom pane have 'Use drop shadows under icon labels on desktop'
checked

Joe, Usenet is for the public to see & you shouldn't expect an email.

Of course you aren't going to see this, are you? Why should people
bother answering you if you are too lazy to even come back in the
newsgroup in a day or two and look for a reply?

To any other newbie - mark your post so you can easily find it later.
Or do a search for yuor posting name or a word in the title.

But I cannot help you Joe - I don't know. But I am telling you do
not use your real email address when posting in Usenet. Your email
address will be "harvested" & you'll get on a list somewhere & be the
target of "stuff". A worm maybe. Email with viruses attached,
whatever - not good. Use a fake email address entered in your
newsgroup reader & forget about email.
