Desktop Cleaning and My Documents deleting files

How can I clean my Desktop and My Documents from documents I don't need
anymore? I deleted all files sitting in my Desktop and in My Documents I
didn't need and when I turned off my computer and turned it on, the files
were there again. Even after 60 days, as set up in auto cleaning, it didn't
disappear. I think it has to do something with the set up of my computer, but
I don't know WHERE I should go. If I save a new file today in My Documents
and want to delete it, it is possible and it doesn't show up after turning my
comp. off and then on. But certain files are still appearing in My Documents
and also in Desktop. Please Help!
