desktop cleaned off

I started my computer and my desktop was cleaned of shortcuts except a few. My unused icons bin was gone
My inbox and all its contents was gone. My Documents is wiped clean except for the few demos that were in My Pictures and My Music when I bought the computer. I did a virus scan but have turned up nothing
Is there any way I can restore everything?

Just to add to my own message. I have now found that a

second user acount with my name followed by .000 has been
created which seems to be the default that my computer
accesses. Even if I go into another account and delete it
the account just pops back as if something is creating it
whenever it is deleted.
