Desktop Background Problem

I got a Trojan Horse last week that hijacked my desktop
background with a "security improvement" web page. It
said "Are you there?" and warned me about computer
safety. It also had a link to their home page. I was
able to delete the image and text, but now my desktop is
white. I only have one phone line, so I know that the
problem isn't caused by an internet connection. I can
see all of my icons, but my desktop image is not
visible. It flashes when I shut down and is showing when
I can through the control panel to change it. I've
contacted Dell, McAfee, run Pest Patrol and Spy Bot, but
nobody has any ideas how to help, short of reinstalling
Windows XP, which I only want to do as a last resort.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Brian, I had the exact same thing happen to me. I tried reinstalling XP, and a system restore, but neither worked.

Have you found a solution? If so, please share it.

Thanks!
