Posting the actual problem would help us determine if disabling NAV / ZA is needed or not. Because you asked:
Both Zone Alarm and NAV load as Windows Service, in addition to user interface. To view all third-party services, you may use MSCONFIG utility. Click Start/Run and type MSCONFIG. Click the Services tab. Click "Hide all Microsoft services". The resultant is the third-party services listing which includes the Service entries for Zone Alarm and Norton Anti-virus. Zone Alarm adds a service entry named "TrueVector" and Norton adds one or more services (Hint: Look for the word "Symantec" and "Norton" in the service name).
To disable the third-party Services, click Start/Run and type services.msc. Double-click the corresponding Service entry and set the Startup type to "Disabled". Click "Stop" to terminate the service.
Next, disable the startup entries for Zone Alarm / Norton antivirus. This can be done using MSCONFIG > Startup tab, by simply unchecking the related entry. Also see:

NOTE: Once you troubleshoot the "actual" problem, be sure to enable the Zone Alarm / Norton services and applications again. Otherwise your PC will be insecure.
