Does anyone have any suggestions for deploying a large
image (approx 1GB) other than using Ghost? I need an
alternative to network deployment for field updates.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,

What about DVD boot?
Or image files zipped in selfextracting exe and launched from mini XPe image that is located on CD (if all can fit).
Or you can use bootable USB flash with 2GB of size.

Slobodan

Slobodan,
No DVD device. I compressed the image down to 400MB. In
order to boot and run a self-extracting .exe. how much
room do you think a mini XPE image would be?

Tim,

Working XPe based on minlogon without any effort from your side can fit in less than 60 MB of uncompressed space.
For working Post FBA XPe image with your programs you will have to use winzip and see.

Slobodan

PS:
Use minlogon macro component it will bring all that you need without the use of TAP.

Our USB-boot image (SDI RAMDisk style) almost fits on a 128m device. We use
a 256mb device. The USB-boot image is accessed by remote desktop to do
backup/restore/reload of the main CF device. All back/restore/reload are
to/from a network share. The USB-boot image is shipped as a binary image
along with a tool to write it to an appropriate device. Reload images of
the main CF are shipped in Window Backup format.

My minlogon image (included network stack) that I used for deployment was about ~30Mb.
And I can say I have optimized the footprint completely.
