Greetings,

I have search Microsofts KB for info and come up with How to
promote and Demote DC's as my only source of information. What I will be
doing is taking a current DC and basically transferring all the data off
of it then taking it offline and putting in a new 2003 server. I want to
use the same server name for the new server. So I will demote the DC,
then bring it down....put in the new server and dcpromo it up. Is that
all I need to do or is there something more I may be overlooking? Any
tips or links would be helpful, thank you in advance.

As long as this is not the only DC in the domain. When you bring the new
server you will have the same name and Ip address. Everything should work.

hello Brandon,

There are two ways of adding Windows Server 2003 DCs to an existing Windows 2000 domain:
1) Add new DCs with DCPROMO
2) Upgrade existing Windows 2000 DCs

however with the information that you provide it looks more to do with the upgradation of the 2000 DC ..

The three important steps involved in the process of upgradation are
1)ADPrep
2)ForestPrep
3)DomainPrep

For detailed information on all of the above 3 steps , please refer to the followin link .

please use the deployment guide in the below link ,

please revert back in case you have any more specific information ...
